Summary
FRT is being used in in-person education settings to track student attendance and verify their identity, and to monitor student engagement allowing instructors to adjust their teaching methods accordingly. The technology can also be used to track student progress and provide personalized learning experiences based on the student's individual strengths and weaknesses. During tests, FRT can be used to verifying the identity of the student, to detect cheating, and ensuring the integrity of test results. FRT is also being used prevent unauthorized access to, to control access to school buildings and secure areas, and detect potential threats and alert authorities if necessary.
Concerns
The dehumanising nature of facially focused education, racial bias in identification, inescapable nature of education-based facial recognition : students do not have any say in what kind of data they are comfortable sharing, students will find it increasingly difficult to blend into the background while being in watched always, increased authoritarian nature of education institutes.Along with the concerns, FRT can positively influence the learning experience from boosting institute safety in the wake of campus shootings, through to better directing teacher attention within a classroom.
